Bill Dreyer is the winner of the two-day 15th annual fluke tournament held last weekend at the Veterans of Foreign War Post 9261 Hall in Oak Bluffs. Mr. Dreyer weighed in a 11.39 pound fish. Second place went to Cooper A. Gilkes 3rd with a 7.05. Third went to Peter Cox with a 6.68 pound fish.

A total of 113 fishermen competed in the contest.

Teenage winners were 1, Brendon Morris, 3.9 pounds; 2, Michael Gibson, 3.75 pounds; 3, Nathaniel Packer, 2.80 pounds.

Children 12 and younger did well: 1, Joseph Medeiros, 5.5 pounds; 2, Tate Buchwald, 4.18 pounds; 3, Darien Kral, 4.04 pounds.

In a competition between 13 fishing teams, the winner was Breakaway. They caught 39.28 pounds of fish. Members include Bill Dreyer, Roger Kubiak and Joe Altavilla.

The fishing contest also includes black sea bass. Kendall Nerney, 11 years old, caught the largest, at 5.4 pounds.

Prizes were substantial for the youngsters participating, included kayaks and bicycles.

“It was like Christmas to the prize winners,” said organizer Peter Herrmann.

“Fishing was tough Sunday afternoon, because the wind picked up,” he added.
