An Edgartown restaurant that has stood vacant this summer is poised to open in October under new management.

The Coogan family, owners of the nearby Wharf Pub and Restaurant, plan to lease the space at 11 North Water street in downtown Edgartown. The restaurant will be called Rockfish, they told selectmen at their meeting last week.

The previous restaurant, Eleven North, opened in September 2012 in the North Water street location that formerly housed David Ryan’s restaurant.

This past December, the building suffered water damage from a dysfunction in the sprinkler system, and the restaurant closed shortly afterwards.

Geoghan E. Coogan, president of Two Brothers and A Sister, Inc., told selectmen that the building had been remodeled since the flooding incident.

“We have been able to work with the owners of the building to redesign it how we think it could work,” he said.

He told the Gazette later that he and his family are unable to complete a new lease until the existing lease for the building terminates.

Mr. Coogan and his brother, William R. Coogan, presented to the board last week. The selectmen approved a general all-alcohol liquor license for the new ownership.

“It sounds like a very positive move and I think all of us will be happy to see it happen,” selectman Margaret Serpa said.
