With two games remaining in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League summer season, the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks have secured a top spot in their division and are second overall in the league. The team is now 28-22 on the season. Scores from Thursday evening’s game against the North Shore Navigators were unavailable at press time. The team’s final games of the regular season will be a doubleheader today against the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs.

The Sharks picked up three wins in a row this week, going 9-2 against the Nashua Silver Knights, 6-0 against the Pittsfield Suns, and 6-1 against the Brockton Rox. Pitcher Nick Fuller (University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth) earned FCBL Player of the Night honors during the shutout of the Suns, going seven scoreless innings and striking out 13. It was Fuller’s second Player of the Night designation; on July 29 he went eight innings against the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide, striking out seven. Outfielder Ryan Kelly (Salve Regina) and pitcher Soren Hansen (Colby) were named Players of the Night for their performances July 30 and July 31. Recent Sharks signee Luke Bonfield (Arkansas) continues to help spark the offense, earning FCBL Player of the Week honors.

The FCBL postseason begins on Saturday. Visit the Gazette website for up-to-date information.
