This Sunday, August 17, the guest preacher at Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs is Bishop Robert Christopher Wright from Atlanta, Ga. He is the first African American to become an Episcopal bishop in Georgia.

Bishop Wright served as a U.S. Navy helicopter crew chief and rescue diver for five years after high school, before attending Howard University in Washington, D.C. Later he worked as a child advocate for two mayors and for the Children’s Defense Fund. He was ordained a priest in 1999.

On Sunday, an organ prelude will begin at 9:40 a.m. and the worship begins at 10 a.m. Union Chapel is located at the end of Circuit avenue in Oak Bluffs, at the intersection of Narragansett and Kennebec avenues.
