It’s been warm and sunny, but now we are getting some much-needed rain. I know everything seems damp, but when you dig into the ground just a few inches down is nothing but powder. But the forecast is looking good for the rest of the week.
Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Branden Hammond who celebrated his day August 9; Adeline Riley and Bryan Sornas, August 10; and to Grace Manson, William Pate and Deborah Silva, who all celebrated their day August 14.
Well, I hate to say it, but summer is winding down. There are some college kids that have left already to start school, most of the others are getting ready to leave.
It will be Grand Illumination on Wednesday and then the Ag Fair starts and of course the fireworks next Friday night. It does not seem possible, but the summer has flown by. Then, of course, there was the person who posted on Facebook that Christmas was only 196 days away. Now there is a scary thought — that we only have a few more hundred days to shop.
I don’t know how many of you have seen the ice bucket challenge that has been going on for the cure of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig disease, but if you do the challenge then you challenge three more people. If you don’t do the challenge you have to send $100 to the ALS Foundation. Some people are confused that if you do the challenge you don’t have to pay the donation, but that is not true. You don’t have to pay the $100, but they donate something. I saw on a report that they have raised well over a million dollars since the challenge began. So it has been a fun thing, plus ALS is getting some great donations.
Ken Vincent and Traeger Di Pietro will be using a live feed camera hooked up to a film projector to project a painting in process onto the Edgartown Lighthouse. The event takes place on Saturday, August 16, and starts at 8 p.m. and goes until painting is done. The finished painting will be put up for sale and proceeds will go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the MVPCS art program.
The annual open house breakfast at the Edgartown fire station will be held August 24 starting a 8 a.m. It is always a great time for young and old.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
