An Edgartown man was arrested in Oak Bluffs on August 3 after allegedly using his iPhone to film under the skirts of young women.

Carlos Deoliveira, 39, of Oak Bluffs, was charged with five counts of photographing an unsuspecting nude person, five counts of disorderly conduct and one count of attempt to commit a crime.

According to a police report by Oak Bluffs Det. James Morse, a woman reported seeing a man standing on Circuit avenue in Oak Bluffs who seemed to be trying to use his iPhone to take pictures or videos under the skirts of young women. The police stopped Mr. Deoliveira and talked to him, the report said, and he denied taking photos or filming the women. The police then looked at his phone and allegedly found an incriminating video. According to the police report Mr. Deoliveira allegedly later said that he filmed under a girl’s dress without her knowledge, and he had done so as many as 10 different times. The police report states that officers obtained a search warrant for the phone and found 14 video files, six of which are the result of Mr. Deoliveira filming other women’s skirts at locations in Vineyard Haven and on Circuit avenue in Oak Bluffs.

He was arraigned on August 4 in Edgartown district court. Bail was set at $1,000 and a pretrial hearing on the case scheduled for Sept. 12.
