On Monday, Sept. 15, I took four pieces of mail (three packages and one letter) to the Oak Bluffs post office. They were sent on their way by Paul and his friendly, helpful postal people.

On Tuesday (one day later) the left-behind cell phone was in the hands of the owner in Cambridge. Wednesday (two days later) the Murdick’s fudge was being enjoyed in Kailua, Hawaii, on the island of Oahu. And on Thursday (three days later) the check was being cashed by a grateful college student in Burlington, Vt. By Wednesday, Sept. 24, Murdick’s fudge was being enjoyed in Nova Scotia, Canada.

Meanwhile on Sept. 22, a package was sent from Hawaii to me and received two days later. Sept. 24, a package (two six-packs of Moxie) was going to Kailua, Hawaii, and received in perfect condition two days later.

Now is this a great U.S. postal system or what?

I want to thank all the postal workers for being so efficient (my favorite word) in getting everything to its final destination, in great condition and so quickly. I was and am still amazed.

So when you next see your postal persons, give them a thank you. And for my own Oak Bluffs post office workers, thank you.
