On Wednesday, Dec. 3, Oak Bluffs officially begins the countdown to Christmas with the annual lighting of the tree at Post Office Square. The ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m.

As per tradition, the Vineyard Brass Ensemble will play carols, and selectman Greg Coogan will light the tree.

This year at the event there will also be an unveiling of artworks created by students from the regional high school The art will be featured in the windows along Circuit avenue throughout the holiday season.

After the lighting of the tree, everyone is invited to Dreamland for hot chocolate, cookies, and Santa arriving by fire truck. The Brian Weiland Band will set the mood.

The event is free but everyone is asked to bring a donation for the Island Food Pantry.
