Vineyard House, the Island’s only sober living facility, will soon be opening a new residential campus in Vineyard Haven.

A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for Dec. 19 at 11 a.m. at the new campus, which is located on Short Hill Road. The houses can accommodate up to seven women and 18 men in buildings that are designed for group living.

A separate administrative building has a community conference room that will be available for recovery program meetings.

For the past 17 years, Vineyard House has served as a refuge for Islanders in early recovery from substance abuse. Residents must be 18 years old, gainfully employed and committed to their recovery. They must also participate in twelve step meetings and submit to random drug and alcohol screening. Vineyard House residents usually come straight from detox but that is not a requirement, and preference is given to Martha’s Vineyard residents. Nantucket residents are considered if space is available.
