Scrooge got you down? Christmas not your holiday? Here’s a sure cure — drive into Oak Bluffs. A handsome spruce floats on Sunset Lake. Across the way, smaller trees dressed in multicolored lights form a cheerful border around the town harbor, where slips are dark and empty now of the boats that fill every square inch of space in summer. A few blocks away, the wide expanse of Ocean Park is transformed into a winking festival of lights, the bandstand aglow at the center of it all. Surely this is the place where reindeer fly across the inky night sky on their annual mission to deliver toys to all the boys and girls.

On Wednesday night the center of town was a festive place as the annual tree lighting ceremony was held. A brass band played, families and children gathered to sing carols and drink hot chocolate. And Santa came. Did he fly over Ocean Park?

No one was telling, but we could feel the magic.
