I write to thank the staff of the Vineyard Haven Post Office for their service and wish them a happy holiday season. They are seriously understaffed, a situation completely outside of their control. And we have lost several of our friends who worked there for decades and knew us all.

Our lovely Jamie, Julie, Charlie and Richie have retired. We lost our Kenny and Danny to untimely and sudden deaths. The new folks don’t yet know us all and are doing their darndest to get acquainted. They are working weekends for us, so our material gifts may be shipped and received. They are our neighbors and it is their Christmas, too.

And I have a message for the older woman who was in line in front of me the other day . . . yes, we had to stand there for several minutes. You used your stage whisper to personally insult each postal worker at the counter. They heard every word. Once you got your turn, you demanded some Baby Jesus stamps; just sayin’.
