Traffic on upper Main street, Edgartown, was interrupted this morning after a water main broke in front of Sharky’s Cantina. Police, fire, highway department crews, along with members of the water department, responded at 9:59 this morning, when water came rising out of the ground in the vicinity of the bicycle path. Water filled the parking lot of the restaurant and overflowed across the street.

Bill Chapman, water superintendent for the town, said crews shut off water to the area to begin the repair work. Though parts of Main street remain flooded, police were able to keep traffic flowing in one lane.

Mr. Chapman said that they hope to be able to make sufficient repairs by 1 p.m.
