The Shabbat service at the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center on Friday, Jan. 16, at 5:30 p.m. will pay homage to the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and his friend and colleague Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel. This is the 17th year that the Martha’s Vineyard Chapter of the NAACP and the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center will co-sponsor the tribute to Reverend King and Rabbi Heschel. Rabbi Caryn Broitman will lead the service.

A number of freedom songs from the Civil Rights Movement and from Jewish tradition will also be featured, intermixed with discussion concerning present-day civil rights issues.

Members of the Martha’s Vineyard community are invited to attend and participate in the service. An Oneg Shabbat of light refreshments will follow the service and tribute.
