In honor of Black History Month on Saturday, Feb. 7, from 9 to 11 a.m. the League of Women Voters of Martha’s Vineyard will host guest speaker Clennon L. King. He will present a preview of his new movie, Passage at St. Augustine, at Howes House in West Tisbury. Mr. King’s southern roots and his family’s role in the Civil Rights Movement inspired him to shoot, write, edit and produce the documentary. Fourteen years in the making, King’s film chronicles a little-known North Florida campaign that is considered by some as the bloodiest of the entire movement.

Mr. King spent a decade as a TV news journalist, reporting for the ABC affiliate in Atlanta, the Fox affiliate in Miami, and the NBC affiliates in Dallas, Mobile, and Jacksonville. When he went undercover into a slave labor camp where homeless people were being exploited, his reporting earned him a national Edward R. Murrow Award, an Emmy nomination, and recognition from the National Association of Black Journalists.

A brunch will be served before the event at 8:30 a.m. For more information, call Julia Burgess at 508-963-3338 or email burgessjbb@gmail.com.
