Severe winter weather has forced the cancellation of the annual Martha’s Vineyard 20-Miler this coming Saturday, organizers have announced.

Peter Lambos confirmed in an email to the Gazette late Monday that the event had been cancelled for the first time in its 18-year history.

The race, which is a benefit for the Martha’s Vineyard Boys’ and Girls’ Club, attracts competitive runners from all over the country and is organized by a large group of Vineyard volunteers.

The race was planned for Saturday, Feb. 14, this year.

Mr. Lambos, who is executive director of the boys’ and girls’ club, said more information would be made available Tuesday.
