The following letter was sent to Doug Sederholm, chairman of the Martha’s Vineyard Commission executive director search committee.

I urge you to ensure that the criteria for seeking and selecting a new director for the commission prominently and centrally include issues of climate change. We will be dealing with challenges of sea level, weather, habitat change, and economic consequences which are very difficult to predict in detail. The new director must have knowledge and experience not only to assess and address these issues, but even more importantly the social and political skills to foster actual cooperation among our fractious town governments. This is a tall order, and the requirements need to be held in prominence throughout the search and selection processes.

Thank you for your consideration of these needs, and thank you for your work on this very important transition for the MVC and for the Island.
