Recently the Chicken Alley Thrift Shop (Martha’s Vineyard Community Services Thrift Shop) completed a large and involved renovation project. We painted and refurbished the floor. To accomplish that, everything in the shop had to be removed. The effort took the support of many. We would like to give a special shout out to Jeffrey Bryant, Sam Bryan and Marshall Pratt, the contractors who did the floor work. Standa Harag coordinated volunteers to paint the walls. Brian Kennedy of Dukes County sheriff’s department and his crew muscled all the displays into storage pods provided by Carroll’s Trucking. The Ingraham family at Island Color Center tracked down all the very specialized paints. Greg and Barbara Thornton custom designed and built new book shelving. And a very special thanks to our fabulous staff Noava Knight and Zachary Sawmiller and all our volunteers and customers for their support and encouragement. This experience reminded me how important Community Services and the Thrift Shop are to this community. I am humbled and beholden to all. Everyone we asked cheerfully came to our assistance.
