Next week the Island’s choral teachers present the All Island Choral Festival with performances by the high school band and orchestra in celebration of March is Music in Our Schools Month. This year’s festival features clinician Judi Vinar who will spend part of the week working with students. A professional singer since 1983 and an accomplished songwriter and arranger, Ms. Vinar was head of the voice department at McNally Smith College of Music for 15 years. Now a freelance vocal clinician, she gives master classes and clinics on vocal improvisation, vocal techniques and ensemble performance strategies.

The hard work culminates in a concert on Thursday, March 12, at 7 p.m. featuring performances by the high school instrumental groups and choral groups with students from grades 5 to 12. Ms. Vinar will conduct the choral portion, which features a presentation of the Finale of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, accompanied by the high school band and orchestra.
