I have been reminded today why I so love receiving the Vineyard Gazette at our home in East Haven, Conn. We spend many weeks in the late spring through fall in our Edgartown home. We read the Gazette all year. This week, the 20th of March, we had such wonderful things to read. On our first visit, day-trippers from a Cape Cod camp ground, we dined at the Ocean View and have since always visited that wonderful restaurant. The poem by John Wightman was lovely. We have brought all our children and grandchildren to dine with us there, admiring the tropical fish and sitting at the table with very high chairs under the light in the main dining room. As a former children’s school librarian, I was so impressed with the essay by Womsikuk James, entitled Legends Are Not Just History. Moby Dick is my favorite novel and his essay was so informative and inspirational.

Finally, I was moved by the essay by Matt Siffert about his amazing grandfather, entitled The Power of a Grandfather’s Love. My father was a railroad man who was self-educated. His love of music, literature and art informed my life and interests. I can well imagine the wonderful impact of his grandfather, reading his letter. So many inspiring and emotional experiences from just one issue.

Kudos to the Vineyard Gazette and a big thank you from one very satisfied reader.
