The girls’ varsity and JV lacrosse teams started their season off with strong showings against Falmouth. The varsity won 12-7, led by captains Emily deBettencourt, Olivia Ogden and Aubrey Ashmun. The JV team lost a close one 18-15. High scorers for the day were Belle Dinning, who had three goals, and Emily deBettencourt who had two goals and three assists.

The girls also hosted a team from St. Helen’s/St. Katherine’s School from Oxford, England. The English girls were fast, aggressive and all had excellent stickwork. Despite losing all three games (varsity 17-2, JV 15-2 and youth 12-2), the Vineyard players had a wonderful two days with the English players.

The past Saturday the Vineyarders took on Nantucket on Saturday. The girls lost a close one last year, but this year beat them 21-7. High scorers for the game were Lee Hayman with 7 goals and 1 assist followed by Belle Dinning who had 5 goals and 1 assist.

On Sunday the team played Triton for the first time, and won 11-10 with a last second goal by Erin Hill.

On Monday, however, the Vineyarders lost to Fairhaven 5-7.
