It was a sad day for me and for my family today, reading the announcement that Dr. Judith Fisher is retiring from her practice at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital in mid-September. I’m sure we can all relate to the feeling of well-being that arrives when you realize that you’ve finally found a caregiver who understands you and your medical needs, responds to them quickly and efficiently, and invests personally in your well-being. She has been as well, one who challenges you to live up to your part of the bargain in staying the right course for health and happiness.

There is no doubt in my mind that Dr. Fisher is the reason I am still here, alive and well, able to reflect on all the good she has done for me and my family over the years. In her letter to her patients, Dr. Fisher closed by saying: “I want to thank you for entrusting your care to me and believing in my way of doing things which I understand is not always ‘the way things are done.’” The thanks should be, and is, from all of us who think that you, Dr. Fisher, can never be replaced. Your way is, and has always been, the way things should have been done. We all wish you a healthy and happy life. Fair trade. That’s what you’ve done for us.
