Since moving our farm to Chappaquddick two and a half years ago, we have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and encouragement from our little island’s community. Neighbors and friends have stepped forward to help us succeed in so many ways: from lending us equipment, joining our CSA, offering a hand at our community events, volunteering on the farm, making donations, or bringing us perennial plants to fill our herb garden. We feel so fortunate to be part of this wonderful community.

We were again reminded of this incredible support this past weekend. Brad Woodger of the Royal and Ancient Chappaquiddick Links hosted a golf tournament fundraiser for Slip Away on Saturday, and over 40 people came out to play. We are so thankful to each one of these players, and also to Brad, who offered to host this tournament despite being a very busy golf course manager and a new father. Thank you, Brad, and all those who donated to the prize basket.

Post tournament, we hosted our annual spring party. We were astounded by how many folks made it out to the farm to celebrate the start of our third season on Chappy. What a crowd! All ages were present: year-rounders, summer residents and weekend visitors alike. Even a baby goat from Flat Point Farm came out to celebrate. Thank you to each and every one of you for coming, we were honored by your presence.

Special thanks goes out to Katie Kidder, Lily K. Morris, Gaby Redner, the Good Farm, the Cattle Drivers, Rosemary Confalone, Josh and Lindsey Scott, and the Chappy Ferry who all helped the day go smoothly in various ways. Finally, I want to thank my “farmily”: Collins Heavener, Christian Walter, Kendyll Gage-Ripa, and my mom, Jan Pogue. You four make Slip Away possible: whether it is working unexpectedly long days, championing a new project, or making a meal for all of us, each of you contributes to this farm in so many ways. I am truly the luckiest.
