Black Uhuru has been leading the reggae vibe since 1972. In 1985 the group won a Grammy award for best reggae album, and in 1989, their album Red was ranked Number 23 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 100 greatest albums of the 1980s.

On Thursday, Sept. 24, Black Uhuru plays the Vineyard, for the first time ever.

During the decades, there have been shifting faces and personalities on stage, along with some time off. But since 2011 the group has been touring steadily and each show seals their legendary status.

The show takes place at The Lampost on Circuit avenue in Oak Bluffs, from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Visit uhuru.brownpapertickets.com.
