Quick, where does this quote come from: “You may be an undigested bit of beef, a blot of mustard, a crumb of cheese, a fragment of underdone potato. There’s more of gravy than of grave about you, whatever you are!”

Give up? It’s from A Christmas Carol, with Scrooge describing one of the ghosts visited upon him. But it is more of a hidden gem, lying somewhere beneath the Tiny Tim musings and Scrooge mutterings in Merry Old England.

But perhaps even this nugget will make its way to the Island this weekend as Neil McGarry brings his one-man performance of the holiday classic to the Katharine Cornell Theatre in Vineyard Haven on Dec. 11 and 12.

Mr. McGarry won a best solo performance award by the Independent Reviewers of New England for his performance as Scrooge, the ghosts, Tiny Tim, Bob Cratchit, the whole cast as embodied by one man.

Showtimes are 7:30 on Friday, Dec. 11, and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12.

Tickets are $20 for general admission, $15 for seniors and students and $12 for veterans/active service members.
