Vineyard Haven resident Nancy Parrish was recently recognized for her work on behalf of victims of sexual assault in the military, with the 2016 Ivan Allen Jr. Prize for Social Courage.

The award was announced this week by Georgia Institute of Technology president G.P. (Bud) Peterson.

Mrs. Parrish is founder and chief executive officer of Protect Our Defenders, the only national human rights organization solely dedicated to addressing the problem of harassment and sexual assault in the military.

The prize includes a $100,000 stipend.

She will be honored at a symposium on Feb. 18.
