A meeting about whelk management scheduled on the Vineyard for Tuesday, Feb. 9 has been cancelled beause of inclement weather, the Department of Marine Fisheries announced.

The DMF said they will provide information about the date and time of the rescheduled meeting in a future notice.

Because of an earlier blizzard, many Islanders were not able to attend a Department of Marine Fisheries meeting about whelk management Jan. 23 in Falmouth. The DMF scheduled an additional meeting on the Vineyard.

The meeting’s topic will be whelk fishery management and compliance issues, including how to improve the method for gauging whelk, gear loss, and trap tag replacement. Those in attendance can also offer comment on whelk management issues.
