Mr. Williams of Vineyard Haven says that after having read columns by Lynne Irons “a couple of times,” he “did not find them very interesting.” But Lynne’s weekly columns are always one of the most interesting parts of the Gazette. I turn to them right away as soon as the newspaper arrives. Anyone has a right to disagree with some or all her opinions, but not to deprive the rest of us of the pleasure and profit of reading them, which goal, I think, is what this angry letter-writer is aiming at. Lynne Irons isn’t writing reportage but what is called a “think-piece,” complete with judgments on all sorts of things; and should, of course, continue to do so.
