Oak Bluffs selectmen appointed Allyson Malik as the new town library director at their Tuesday meeting.

Ms. Malik came to the library in January 2015 as the adult and technology services librarian, and she has served as acting director since the departure of Sondra Murphy in October.

Fourteen people applied for the position. A search committee narrowed the candidates to three, and interviewed them in public session on Dec. 1 and 2.

Ms. Malik was supported in letters to selectmen by the library staff, and the library board of trustees. Selectmen Mike Santoro, Kathy Burton, Gail Barmakian, and Walter Vail voted in favor of the appointment. Selectman Greg Coogan did not attend the meeting.

Also Tuesday, the board approved the transfer of a lodging license to the new owners of the Wesley Hotel. Lark Hotels, a boutique chain that operates small luxury hotels in several New England resorts, purchased the property last spring. The owners intend to do business with a new name when the hotel reopens this spring after a substantial renovation. It will be called Summercamp.

On its website, Lark Hotels describes Summercamp as a hotel that “reflects the rustic, retro, and nostalgic touches that any former campgoer (or former child) can embrace.”

The establishment had been named the Wesley Hotel since its opening in 1879.
