Vineyard House, the Island’s only sober living community, celebrates 22 years of service with its unique fundraising event, Water Tasting by the Sea on Thursday, July 18. The annual gathering, held this year at the new Martha’s Vineyard Museum location overlooking Lagoon Pond in Vineyard Haven, invites attendees to raise their glasses — filled with sparkling or still water options — and enjoy hors d’oevres from Kitchen Porch Catering, bid on art by Vineyard artists in a silent auction and win raffle prizes.

Vineyard House helps Islanders in the early stages of substance addiction recovery by providing transitional housing and structured support as they seek to rebuild relationships with themselves, their families and their community.

Their new campus, opened in 2014, has capacity for 25 men and women, housed in separate buildings. Residents are expected to have a job, actively pursue recovery through 12-step programs and daily meetings, contribute to the community and pay rent, which covers more than half of the cost of their housing and programs. Each year Vineyard House needs to raise 35 per cent of their operating costs through their event fundraising.

Water Tasting By the Sea takes place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available for $125, through the Vineyard House website or at the door on the day of the tasting. For more information, visit vineyardhouse.org or call 508-693-8580.
