The Field Fund has been awarded a Safe Places to Play grant from the U.S. Soccer Foundation, according to an announcement from the nonprofit fund for Martha’s Vineyard playing fields.

The funds will go toward Hunter Industries parts for an irrigation upgrade at the West Tisbury School field, which is heavily used by students as well as the roughly 450 children and their families who participate in MV United’s recreational soccer programs, according to the announcement.

The project to upgrade the school’s antiquated irrigation system was unanimously approved for financial support by the West Tisbury Community Preservation Committee (CPC) and is expected to take place during the summer of 2021, after voters have had the chance to weigh in, the Field Fund announcement continues.
