An Oak Bluffs man is facing gun possession charges after he was found with a revolver in the parking lot of a funeral home Saturday.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:45 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, according to Oak Bluffs police Lieutenant Nicholas Curelli.

Lieut. Curelli said emergency services responded to a call at Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home and found the man, 80, in his vehicle with a revolver.

“He was in a vehicle in the parking lot,” Lieut. Curelli said.

Police then recovered the firearm, Lieut. Curelli said, and the man was transported to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Lieutenant Curelli said the man will be arraigned in Edgartown District Court on charges of carrying a firearm without a license after the completion of the mental health evaluation.

Police and fire department officials said that the firearm was not discharged in the incident, and that no injuries were reported.
