The Oak Bluffs select board announced Tuesday that this year’s annual town meeting will be on Tuesday, April 9 at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School Performing Arts Center. A time has not been set.

Town elections will be held shortly after on Thursday, April 11. Nomination papers and information about open positions are available at the town clerk’s office in town hall.

A due date for nominations has not been set, but will likely be in late February, said select board chair Emma Green-Beach.

“I want to clarify that even if all incumbents are running [for their positions], there are still seats available,” said Ms. Green-Beach. “We want everyone to know they can run.”

During its meeting, the select board also voted unanimously to submit a town meeting warrant article to change all references to Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples’ Day in town bylaws and regulations.

“There are about two dozen cities and town in Massachusetts that have officially adopted this,” said Ms. Green-Beach.

“I think this is a great thing to let the people decide,” said board member Jason Balboni. “We do have a large Indigenous people population here, and I think we can move forward and let residents decide what they want.”
