Gloria B. Overton, 84, Was Devoted to Church

Gloria B. Overton, 84, of Cape May Court House, N.J., died on Saturday, Oct. 12, at the home of her daughter, Sherye Chase Pearson.

Born in Mobile, Ala., she was a district sales manager for Avon Products in New York city. She had lived in Cape May Court House for the past four years, coming from Martha's Vineyard, where she was a full-time resident for 20 years and a summer resident for a decade before that.

She was a member of Christ Gospel Church in Whitesboro, N.J.; the Apostolic House of Prayer on Martha's Vineyard and Love Tabernacle Church of Yonkers, N.Y. She was a very active church member.

She was a fashion model with the Bradford Agency of New York city and had graduated from the Institute of Fashion and Design of New York. She was a lifetime member of the Auxiliary #198 of the NAACP.

She is survived by her son, Frank Alexander Overton of Massachusetts; two daughters, Sherye Chase Person of Cape May Court House and a special daughter, Wanda Jean Myers of Martha's Vineyard; two daughters in law, Wanda Overton of Brooklyn and Denise Van Allen Overton of Boston; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her two sons, Lenwood Joseph Overton and Joseph (Jay) Lenwood Overton.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at noon at Christ Gospel Church, Anna street, Whitesboro; interment was at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Oak Bluffs. Memorial gifts may be made to the Christ Gospel Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 44, Whitesboro, NJ 08252.
