Stephen J. Murray, 45, Was Avid Outdoorsman

Stephen John Murray of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Fairhaven, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, unexpectedly in his residence. He was 46.

Born in New Bedford, a son of Stanley J. Murray Sr. of Venice, Fla., and Eunice (Robins) Zelle of Edgartown, he spent his youth in Fairhaven, moving to the Orlando area two years ago.

Mr. Murray was employed in the construction industry in Florida as a heavy equipment operator. While residing in Massachusetts he was employed as the director of maintenance in a New Bedford nursing home. He was also employed as a commercial scalloper from New Bedford and Fairhaven for 12 years, retiring in 1987.

Mr. Murray was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his stepfather, William Zelle of Edgartown; three brothers, Stanley J. Murray Jr. of Miami, Fla., James H. Murray of Fairhaven and Michael D. Murray of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two sisters, Patricia A. Oliver of Fairhaven and Erica L. Elliot of Melbourne, Fla.; a niece, Melissa Oliver, and a nephew, Neil Oliver.

Private arrangements are in the care of the Fairlawn Home of Waring-Sullivan, 180 Washington street, Fairhaven.
