Mitchell Klein, 50, Was Island Summer Visitor

Mitchell Klein of Darien, Conn., a former Boston resident and longtime summer visitor to the Vineyard, died on Dec. 24 at Stamford Hospital.

He was born May 15, 1952, in Seattle, Wash., the son of Howard L. Klein of South Burlington, Conn., and Jean Klein of New York city. He was a 1969 graduate of Staples High School in Westport and was graduated from Ripon College in Wisconsin. Most recently, he worked as a managing director with the Resources Systems Group in Stamford. Previously, he served as a director in the technology practice at Christian and Timbers. He began his career in the retail industry with Federated Department Stores.

He was a member of the Middlesex Swim Club and a former member of the Darien RTM. He was active in the Darien Soccer Association over the last decade, helping as a board member, registrar, coach and team manager.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Lafferty of Darien, and three children, Lizzie, Will and Maggie Klein; a brother, Randy Klein of Darien, and a sister, Ann Klein of New York city.

A memorial service will be held at the Noroton Presbyterian Church at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mitch Klein Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 962, New Canaan, CT 06840.
