Helena Yanco, 88, Was Former Island Resident

Helena Yanco, 88, wife of the late Renauld Yanco, died Wednesday, Feb. 19 at the Royal Nursing Home in Falmouth.

Born in Boston on Dec. 15, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Hans and Amelia Zander. Mrs. Yanco was raised, attended schools and was married in Boston. In 1970, she and her husband retired to Charlestown, R.I. After her husband's death in 1990, Mrs. Yanco moved first to Issaqua, Wash., then to Martha's Vineyard and most recently to Falmouth. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Boston, a charter member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Charlestown, R.I., and enjoyed gardening.

She will be sadly missed by two daughters, Adele Yanco Schonbrun of West Tisbury and Sandra Abrams of Long Beach, Calif. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Heather Klinck of Utica, Mich., Serena Schonbrun of Chicago, Ill., Emily Abrams of Hermosa Beach, Calif., and Dan Abrams of Venice, Calif.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Yanco was predeceased by a sister, Evelyn Lawrence.

A graveside will be held at noon on Monday, Feb. 24, at the River Bend Cemetery on Beach street in Westerly, R.I. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 4 East Beach Road, Charlestown, RI 02813. The Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home in Westerly, R.I., is in charge of arrangements.
