David Alwardt, 47, Was Former Island Resident

David P. Alwardt, 47, died on April 14. He was born and raised on Martha's Vineyard but his heart belonged to the Great Smokey Mountains of North Carolina, where he has been a resident for the last 15 years. His ashes were scattered from an overlook off the Blue Ridge Parkway on Friday, April 18.

David is survived by his two daughters, Jocelyn Gordon of Rehoboth and Holly Alwardt of Hatboro, Pa., as well as a grandson, Thomas Gordon of Rehoboth, and three brothers and a sister, Madison Alwardt Jr., Billy Alwardt and Mark Alwardt, all of Oak Bluffs, and Lorre Alwardt of New Boston, N.H.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 7, at 6 p.m. at the Scheuer house in Prospect Hill in Chilmark. The house was loaned to the family for the service by the generosity of Mr. Walter Scheuer of New York and Chilmark.
