Adelaide Clausen Usher Was Devoted to Family

Adelaide Clausen Usher, 83, of Tolland, Conn., formerly of Stamford, Conn., died on Tuesday, August 12. She was the widow of John Wilson Usher and the mother of Donald Usher of Conyers, Ga., Brian Usher of Storrs, Conn., Susan McCarthy of Edgartown, and Anne Usher of Tolland, Conn. She was born in Jersey City, N.J., on Nov. 30, 1919, to George Clausen and Anna Merritt Clausen.

Lovingly known as Grammie, she cherished all of her grandchildren: Christian, Colin, Cory and Alyssa Usher of Conyers, Ga.; Brian and Beth Usher of Storrs, Conn., and Rebecca, Ryan, Eric and Mikey McCarthy of Edgartown. In addition to her children and grandchildren, her sister, Gloria Clausen Duffy of Springfield, N.J., survives her. A brother, George Clausen, predeceased her.

She will always be remembered for her love of family, her fabulous cooking, her wonderful Christmas morning breakfasts and her commitment to always getting the best Christmas and birthday present possible for her children and her grandchildren. She loved New York city, her lifelong friend, Annie Ferry, and her sister, Gloria Clausen Duffy. She was a devoted fan of the University of Connecticut Huskies, particularly the women's basketball team.

She loved being on Martha's Vineyard with her family. She treasured spending time with her "girls": daughters Annie and Sue, nieces Becca and Beth, watching movies and laughing until midnight. She made every effort to attend her grandchildren's sports games, even sitting in the rain until they were over. Her children and grandchildren will always cherish the love and devotion she gave them, taking time and care to cook their special meals when they visited.

She requested that her funeral services be private.

Donations in her memory may be made to Windham Community Memorial Hospital, 112 Mansfield avenue, Willimantic, CT 06226.
