John B. Davis, 84, Was Veteran of World War II

John B. Davis, 84, of Dayton, Ohio, died Saturday, Jan. 17. He was born in Edgartown in his family home on Dec. 11, 1919, the son of the Judge Arthur Werner Davis and Harriett Orswell Davis. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior and VFW Post 9927.

Mr. Davis worked as fulfillment manager for Newsweek magazine and was a small-business owner in Dayton. He also served as a student van driver for the Oakwood Public Schools.

He was a combat veteran of the 43rd Bombardment US Army Air Corps, serving in the Pacific Theater with the 43rd Bomb Group, 5th Army Air Force during World War II.

Preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Kathleen, he is survived by three sons, John Jr. and his wife, MaryAnn, of Newton, Pa., Peter and his wife, Anne, of Oakwood, and David of Johannesburg, South Africa; a daughter, Nancy Davis of Oakwood; three grandchildren, John, Benjamin and Kathleen, all of Oakwood; a niece, Pamela Street of Martha's Vineyard, and a nephew, the Hon. Anthony A. Schall of Chevy Chase, Md.

Family welcomed friends Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Routsong Funeral Home, 6 Oakwood avenue, Dayton, Ohio. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 155 E. Thruston Blvd., Dayton, Ohio, with the Rev. Gary Eichhorn officiating.
