Sumner H. Ohlson Was Veteran of World War II

Sumner H. Ohlson, of West Bridgewater and Oak Bluffs, died Friday, July 2, at the Windsor Nursing Home in South Yarmouth after a period of failing health. He was 85.

He was born Jan. 22, 1919, in West Bridgewater, the son of the late Carl and Lillie (Hulten) Ohlson. He was the husband of the late Catherine M. (Welsh) Ohlson.

Raised and educated in West Bridgewater, Mr. Ohlson was a graduate of Howard High School and worked as a line supervisor for the Brockton Edison Company for more than 40 years, retiring in 1981.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Ohlson was a member of the Brockton Country Club and the Mink Meadows Golf Club on Martha's Vineyard. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending his summers in Oak Bluffs.

He is survived by his son, Richard Ohlson, and his wife, Cheryl, of Dennis; three grandchildren, Wendy Ohlson and Jody Singleton, both of Dennis, and Eric Ohlson of Plymouth; three great-grandchildren and several nieces. He was the father of the late Sally Ohlson and brother to the late Carl Ohlson Jr. and Lance Ohlson.

His funeral services were private. Arrangements were by the Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford street, Bridgewater.
