Doris Sviridoff Enjoyed Her Aquinnah Summers

Doris Sviridoff, 85, a longtime summer resident of Lighthouse Road in Aquinnah, died peacefully on Sept. 8. She was the wife of the late Mitchell (Mike) Sviridoff. Their primary residence was in new York city.

Doris and Mike first came to the Vineyard in 1963 and immediately fell in love with the north shore view of Vineyard Sound and the Elizabeth Islands. Doris came to love picking blueberries, making beach plum jelly, crocheting prize-winning afghans and hooking rugs. She spent more and more time on the Vineyard each year.

Doris was born in New Haven, Conn., where she lived until 1966. In New Haven, she was assistant director of the Family Relocation Office and was active in both Democratic politics and the League of Women Voters. She was also well known for completing the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle in pen.

She is survived by her daughters, Karen Segal of Los Angeles and Michele Sviridoff of New York city; her grandson, Christopher Nichelson, and her great-grandchildren, Kiyoshi and Sanae.
