Betty Jane Pisani, 83, Loved Visiting Grandchildren

Betty Jane (Sweetland) Pisani, 83, of Hamilton, wife of J. George Pisani, died Oct. 4, at Addison-Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester following an extended illness.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Louis R. and Eva (Henderson) Sweetland.

Mrs. Pisani was a graduate of Lynn English High School and the Modern School of Applied Arts in Boston. She enjoyed her career as an advertising copywriter and had lived in Boston for several years before marrying and moving to Hamilton in 1951.

Mrs. Pisani was a charter member of the Hamilton Historical Society and a founder of their archives. She was also a member of the Hamilton-Wenham Garden Club for 13 years, a volunteer at the Christ Church Thrift Shop for 42 years, and served as an election clerk for the town of Hamilton for many years.

For almost 25 years she was a frequent visitor to the Island, where she took great delight in spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband of 54 years, Mrs. Pisani is survived by: one son, Donald S. Pisani of Emkendorff, Germany; one daughter Jane B. Finnerty and her husband Charles Burnham of West Tisbury; and two granddaughters, Mariah A. MacGregor and Anna C. Finnerty of West Tisbury.

Private funeral services were held Oct. 7 at Hamilton Cemetery.
