Christian E. Manley, 24, Excelled in Business Studies

Christian Edward Manley, son of Capt. Thomas E. Manley of Edgartown and New Bedford and Debra Robinson Manley of Edgartown died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford. He was the maternal grandson of Louise A. Robinson of Vineyard Haven and the late Albert S. Robinson, and the paternal grandson of the late Edward L. Manley Sr. and the late Genevieve Luce Manley.

Christian was born at the Martha's Vineyard Hospital in Oak Bluffs on his father's birthday, March 2, 1980. He attended the Edgartown Elementary School, and graduated from the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School in 1998. He attended Tilton School in Tilton N.H. for his sophomore and junior year where he excelled in varsity football and lacrosse.

He attended Plymouth State College where he majored in business administration and was on the dean's list, the president's list and was also awarded the business student of the year award; he transferred to University of Massachusetts Dartmouth where he was presently enrolled.

Besides his parents and grandmother, Christian is survived by his aunts and uncles: Capt. Martin Manley of New Bedford, Mrs. Mary Close of Denver, Anne Lemenenger formerly of Edgartown now of New Bedford, Albert and Beverly Robinson of Tisbury, Rhonda Fauteux and Antone Bettencourt of Edgartown, Clifton and Jennifer Robinson of Oak Bluffs, and Francis and Lori Fisher of Edgartown. He was predeceased by uncle Edward L. Manley, and his aunts Barbara Lachapelle, Martha MacMullen, Margaret Butler and Teresa Robinson. Christian will be missed by his countless cousins and friends from all over the Cape and Islands and beyond.

His funeral mass was celebrated in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Oak Bluffs on Monday, Nov. 15. Burial followed in the New Westside Cemetery in Edgartown.
