Billie Doscher Harrill, 82, Was East Chop Visitor

Billie Doscher Harrill, wife of R. Leonard Harrill of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and East Chop died unexpectedly on Oct. 19. Childhood friends, finding each other after 60 years apart, Billie and Leonard had just been married.

Her grandson, Ron Inabinett Jr., wrote of their marriage saying: "Happiness I believe was given a new definition on Sept. 25, 2004. Real happiness is not defined by a possession, a career, or any amount of money - it's defined by finding that someone special to spend the rest of your life with, someone who really loves you. Many say you can't see happiness, but to see a grandmother and great-grandmother to some, bright and glowing as not seen in years; or a grandfather, and great-grandfather to some, with that special sparkle in his eye - I think we all saw happiness."

Mrs. Harrill was born Nov. 21, 1921, in Columbia, S.C. She was an active member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. She was introduced to the Vineyard this past summer. Funeral services were held in Charleston, S.C. A graveside service was held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Vineyard Haven on Nov. 5.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Harrill is survived by her son, J. Ronald Inabinett and his wife Marsha of Ravenel, S.C.; one stepson, Ronald F. Harrill of Salisbury, N.C.; one step-daughter, Kim Patterson of Glen Ridge, N.J.; two grandchildren, three step grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
