Dorothy R. Macdonald

Dorothy R. Macdonald (nee Gifford), 82, beloved wife of Kenneth W. Macdonald, died on Dec. 7.

Born Dorothy Gifford on Cape Cod in 1922, Dorothy's roots can be traced to both John Holland of the Mayflower and Thomas Mayhew, founder of Martha's Vineyard. She was the granddaughter of George Gifford, original town clerk of Tisbury.

Before marriage to Kenneth Macdonald in 1949, Dorothy taught elementary school for four years in Connecticut and Massachusetts. She had graduated from Bridgewater State Teacher's College in the class of 1940. Mrs. Macdonald followed her husband to job locations in New York (1949-51), Connecticut (1951-52), and Columbus, Ohio (1953-54) before settling in the Cleveland area from 1954 to the present.

Mrs. Macdonald belonged to the Brooklyn Heights United Church of Christ in Cleveland where she was active in church circles. She also served as secretary to the church council.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth W. Macdonald, her children, George W. Macdonald, Rev. James S. Macdonald, Dr. Nancy E. Macdonald (Mike McCormick), David D. Macdonald (Paulette) and Kenneth Macdonald; her eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sister of Ellen Downing and the late William A. Gifford.

Funeral services will be held Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. at the Brooklyn Heights United Church of Christ, 2005 W. Schaaf Road in Cleveland Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the church.
