Phillip Mattar Summered in Oak Bluffs Cottage

Phillip S. Mattar, 70, of Creola, Ala., died Sunday, March 13.

Born Nov. 24, 1934, in Hot Springs, Ark., to George and Lou Mattar, he attended Western Military Academy and Creola Assembly of God Church, was a U.S. Air Force Korean War and Vietnam veteran and worked in the television business.

He spent summers growing up in Oak Bluffs with his grandmother, Emily Mattar, in her cottage on Seaview avenue. He loved fishing and swimming.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Mattar of Creola; a son, Larry Mattar of Mississippi; a stepson, Donnie Ray Burt Sr., of Washington County, Ala.; two grandchildren, and one aunt, Louise Whidden, of Hot Springs.

Interment was at Serenity Memorial Gardens, Veterans Wall of Honor, with full military honors.
