Richard Steigelman Was Owner of Farm and Feed

Richard T. Steigelman of Edgartown died Wednesday, Sept. 14, after a 14-month recovery from surgery.

He was born on April 6, 1944, the son of Jane and Harry Steigelman. Richard was raised in Riverton, N.J., and had lived in Edgartown for the past 41 years. He was graduated from Palmyra High School and the American Culinary Institute.

Mr. Steigelman worked as a chef at the Harbor View Hotel and Seafood Shanty in his twenties and most recently was the owner of Vineyard Farm and Feed Inc. and Island Pet and Garden Inc., both in Edgartown. He was a known figure in the drag racing community of New England Dragway in Epping, N.H. - one of his true passions, the other being the many weeklong hunting trips to Pennsylvania with family and friends over the past 40 years.

He is survived by his mother and father, Harry and Jane Steigelman; his sister Barbara Genther and her husband, Ronald; two sons, Christopher Steigelman, his wife Kim and their two children, Kara and Brandon, of Edgartown, and Eric Steigelman, his wife Amy and their three children, Tyler, Bryan and Gage, of Ashburnham; a daughter, Sara Cuthbert, her husband Roger and their three children of Manchester, N.H., and her mother Patricia of Edgartown.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 23, at 5:30 p.m. at Chapman, Cole and Gleason funeral home on Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road in Oak Bluffs. All are invited to a reception following the service at the American Legion Hall on Martin Road in Vineyard Haven.
