David Jon Brand of Edgartown, formerly of Wellesley, died Sept. 14 after a brief illness. He was 39 and taught science at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School.

He graduated from the Wellesley High School in 1987 and received a bachelor’s degree in environmental conservation from the University of Colorado, and a master’s degree in human geography from the University of Massachusetts. He had worked as a logistician for Doctors Without Borders.

He is survived by his wife Julie, also formerly of Wellesley, a daughter Camille; his parents John and Mary Beth Brand of South Woodstock, Vt.; a sister Julie; and two brothers, Christopher and Michael.

A memorial mass was held on Wednesday this week at St. Paul’s Church in Wellesley.

Funeral arrangements were handled by George F. Dougherty & Sons in Wellesley.
