Ronald (Ron) Ames of Mashpee lost his battle with lung cancer and died peacefully in his home on Sunday evening, Feb. 22.

Ron was a master stonemason on Martha’s Vineyard for three decades, a talented artist, architect, builder, wood carver and musician and will be remembered especially for his exceptional banjo playing. Quick with a joke, a smile or a laugh, his sense of humor, dedication to his work and love of life will be fondly remembered by those who had the honor of knowing him.

He served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a Freemason and an active member of Falmouth’s Marine Lodge and was a proud descendent of five of the original voyagers of the Mayflower.

A longtime resident of Falmouth, Ron is survived by his beloved companion Jeanne Concannon of Mashpee; daughters Pamela Ames of Falmouth and Elizabeth Rioux of Plymouth; and siblings, Richard Ames of Saint Augustine, Fla., Charlotte McLoughlin of Woonsocket, R.I. and Steven Smalley of Bridgewater.

Visiting hours will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28 in the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home in Falmouth. A service in the funeral home will begin at 1 p.m. Interment is private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod Inc, 765 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601.
