Margaret Medeiros Woods Miller of Rotonda West, Fla., 67, died on Feb. 11 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, Fla., due to complications of a stroke.

Peggy was born in Osterville to Manuel and Constance Medeiros, and was graduated from Barnstable High School.

She moved to the Vineyard in the mid 1960s, and she and her husband, George C. Woods, along with other family members, including Walter C. Woods Sr., owned and operated the Mansion House Hotel on Main street in Vineyard Haven.

Shortly after George Woods’ death in the early 1970s, the hotel was sold and Peggy went to work for the Martha’s Vineyard National Bank. As “Clerk of the Works,” Peggy was instrumental in the construction of the bank’s drive-up facility, located behind the main bank on Main street in Vineyard Haven.

During this time, Peg rekindled an acquaintance with Bennett (Ben) Miller in Springfield, and the two were married in 1979.

As Peg and Ben had a home-based business, they were able to travel, and they lived in Springfield, East Falmouth, Florida, and several towns in Pennsylvania before settling in Philadelphia where they lived for many years.

After Ben’s death in 2005, Peggy and her son Robert moved to North Carolina and then to Florida, where Peg settled in Rotonda West and Robert in Pembroke Pines.

Peggy was predeceased by her parents, her brother Henry Medeiros and her husbands George and Ben.

She is survived by her son Robert I. Miller of Pembroke Pines, Fla., her sister Beatrice Amsbaugh of Rotonda West, Fla., and various Medeiros and Woods family members.

Peg was a crackerjack businesswoman with a sharp wit and keen mind and was very generous to her friends and family members.

A graveside service and interment was held on Feb. 18 at the Veterans National Memorial Cemetary in Sarasota, Fla.
